The most irrelevant, badly dated item you will read all day
How come when McLean Stevenson left the TV series M*A*S*H for a failed new series, he became the butt of jokes for the next twenty-five years, while Wayne Rogers left the same year in a contract dispute, never really did anything as huge, acting-wise, after that, and has totally slid by? Rogers didn’t even bounce for another series, he just wanted more money! I have never heard Rogers clowned once, ever. Why? How was this allowed to happen?
I know it’s too late to correct comic history, what with Shelley Long, Rob Morrow, and of course, David Caruso currently claiming the mantle of “TV Stars Who Should Have Stayed Where They Were.” Rogers was on a show that was ended three decades ago, so the statue of limitations has run out. So nothing can be done.
Except to salute Wayne Rogers, a successful fugitive from pop-culture justice. (If I did nothing else in this horrendous waste of time, it would be awesome to see the words “successful fugitive from pop-culture justice” in his obituary, whenever that might be. Feel free to use it.)
